Start from your own meet-up spot. Drive GA-348 to the overlooks, then return toward Helen. Gravel is a same-day option.

The itinerary

Early start, waterfall first, mountain roads after lunch. Times are targets; leave room for traffic and kid breaks.

THE MORNING HIGHLIGHT

A short walk.
Two waterfalls.

A paved trail, observation decks and a proper family photo stop. Allow two hours for the walk, restrooms and gift shop.

Paved does not mean flat: the trail has steep sections. A baby carrier may be easier than a stroller. Take the Cayenne photos at a safe mountain parking area; cars cannot go to the falls.

The essentials

01 / THE DRIVE

Mountain driving.

Take GA-348 at a comfortable pace. Stop at two or three overlooks; use designated parking for photos and picnics.

Dry: a short run on an open, designated gravel road.

Soft or muddy: turn around or skip it.

Closed: stay on pavement.

No gravel road is committed in advance. Check the motor vehicle map, closures and conditions before leaving pavement.

02 / THE EVENING

Oktoberfest in Helen.

Music, dancing and German food at the Festhalle. Our target arrival is 5 PM; Saturday hours are 1–11 PM.
